About

An entire volume, a pure form, or a sculpture. A portion of space cut out with sinuous curves, a sleek contour, that excludes every straight line. In this design, two points will never be aligned, unless they are both part of the tabletop. A curve is what always connects them. As with all tables, the problem of the project is to connect the two parallel tops: the support base on the ground and the tabletop, where we carry out activities, mainly seated, such as eating, writing, using something with our hands.

Description

The Giglio collection is all made of marble: it is a block of white marble, a carved Carrara Statuario made in the manner of a sculptor, who takes off to devoid, to uncover the deepest part and to set free the surfaces from deep intimacy, from the secret of every material. Finally released from the inevitable constraint that all materials have with their thickness. Three overlapped marble drums, each one devoid by its deepest thickness. They pool the surfaces, relating the two tops, on the ground and at height, in a sculptural consistency. In its continuous design, it appears like a monolith, where the base and the top interact through the middle element, which solves, with rough and elegant flutings, our natural need of geometry. A circular sheet of glass on the tabletop completes the structure and defines its shape, but it lets catch an unusual glimpse of the interior of the sculpture. There are three types of dimensions for three different uses and two types of surface finishes.
In the vertical flutings of the top, it recalls the archetype of the column, or of one of the column drums of classical architecture.
